Rebar is the most popular type of steel bar. It is available with a smooth or ribbed surface featuring a specific pattern (crescent-shaped or ring-shaped). Rebar can vary in its chemical and physical properties, which determine the product’s intended use.

  • Manufacturing

    Rebar Production

    Steel construction rebar is produced using hot rolling technology at rolling mills of metallurgical plants.

    Construction rebar must have the following properties:

    • High tensile and compressive strength;
    • Manufacturing precision;
    • Stress resistance;
    • Corrosion resistance;
    • Strong adhesion to concrete.
  • Uses

    Field of Application

    Construction rebar is typically used in monolithic civil and industrial construction for reinforcement, binding, and load distribution between reinforced concrete structures.

    Ribbed rebar is used to create frameworks for railway foundations, monolithic buildings, bridges, tunnels, reinforced concrete floor slabs, and more. By reinforcing concrete structures, loads are properly distributed among structural elements, increasing their strength, load-bearing capacity, and resistance to deformation and thermal expansion.

    Smooth rebar is used for reinforcing small concrete products (columns, curbs, thresholds), strengthening joints between block or brick masonry, concrete screeds, manufacturing hardware products (pins, bolts), installing building lightning protection systems, producing welded meshes, metal structures, and more.

  • Classification

    Classification of Rebar and Its Purpose

    Metal rebar can be:

    • Assembly – steel rods without ribs, available in Dnipro in diameters from 6 to 40 mm. The product price depends on the steel grade. Used for welding reinforcement meshes, reinforcing foundations of private houses and small extensions, and manufacturing metal structures and products.
    • Working – rebar, usually with a ribbed profile, for monolithic construction. Ribbed rebar is produced in diameters from 6 mm to 80 mm (the thicker the rod, the higher the price). Each class of rebar has its own marking. Construction rebar of different classes has varying tensile strength and elongation at break.

    Today, rebar can be purchased from:

    • Carbon steel (carbon content up to 2.14% without alloying additives) – all steel grades marked St: calm, semi-killed, and killed steel.
    • Alloy steel – by adding manganese, chromium, nickel, or other alloying metals, the required operational properties of the rolled products are achieved (ductility, strength, resistance to chemical exposure, temperature fluctuations, enhanced magnetic properties, etc.).

    Rebar can be prestressed or non-prestressed – used in building structures subjected to permanent or variable stress, respectively.

  • How to choose

    How to Choose Correctly?

    Rebar is selected based on the following criteria:

    • Nominal diameter of the rod (profile number);
    • Rod strength class – steel yield strength;
    • Height of the transverse rib – distance from the nominal center of the product to the top of the rib;
    • Transverse rib pitch – distance between adjacent ribs;
    • Inclination angle between the longitudinal axis of the product and the transverse rib;
    • Length of ribbed rebar – standard, multiple standard, or custom (produced in the range of 6–12 meters); smooth rods with a diameter up to 10 mm can be supplied in coils.
