There is no industrial sector in which rolled steel tubes, particularly shaped tubes, are not used. Shaped tubes are a versatile type of steel profile, the cross-section of which can take various forms other than circular: rectangular, square, hexagonal, oval or triangular. The most popular on the market are square and rectangular steel profile pipes.

  • Manufacturing

    Production of Profile Pipes

    Depending on the manufacturing technology, profile pipes can be:

    1. Seamed (electric-welded). Technological process: cutting a steel sheet into blanks (strips) ➝ rolling the strip into a band ➝ deformation on a forming machine into a profile blank ➝ welding in a chamber with an inert environment.
    2. Seamless. Production process: a hot-rolled round pipe is produced ➝ a square or rectangular cross-section is formed ➝ the steel profile pipe is calibrated by rolling on a mill to the required dimensions in accordance with the standards.

    Depending on the billet rolling technology, seamless profile pipes can be:

    1. Hot-deformed – characterized by increased strength.
    2. Cold-rolled – characterized by precise geometric dimensions and a clean inner surface.

    Due to the more complex and costly manufacturing technology, the price of profile pipes is higher than that of round-section products.

  • Uses

    Areas of Application

    The field of application depends on the manufacturing method and the geometric parameters of the metal profile.

    It can be:

    1. General purpose – thin-walled profile pipes used for manufacturing furniture and decorative items (table frames, sofa legs, stair railings) and other structures that are not subjected to heavy loads, for example fence posts.
    2. Construction thick-walled load-bearing – products typically used in civil and industrial construction where significant static loads occur (assembly of metal building structures, construction of frame buildings, installation of masts and supports, spans and floor structures).

    Metal products are also used in railway car manufacturing, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, defense, and other industries.

  • Advantages

    Advantages of Steel Pipes

    Seamless profile pipes have a number of advantages due to the absence of weld seams:

    • tightness and high strength thanks to internal stiffening ribs;
    • wear resistance, durability and resistance to deformation;
    • resistance to temperature expansion and pressure fluctuations;
    • easy machining (welding, cutting, drilling, bending with pipe benders).

    The only disadvantage of metal products is the relatively high price (even when purchased in large wholesale quantities) due to the complexity and high cost of production.

  • Product range

    Types and Product Range

    The product range is described in the relevant regulatory documents, which specify:

    • Manufacturing technology (cold-formed or hot-formed steel pipe).
    • Steel grade (standard, carbon, alloy, etc.).
    • Cross-section shape (square, rectangular).
    • Geometric dimensions of the profile (for example, 160x160x6 – a square profile pipe with a side width of 160 mm and a wall thickness of 6 mm).
    • Product length – rolled products can be purchased in measured sections with lengths of 8, 10, or 12 meters.

    The price of the product depends on the specified parameters.
