A steel pipe with a welded seam is used either as a finished product or as raw material for the further production of industrial goods. Depending on the type of seam, an electric-welded pipe can be longitudinally welded or spiral welded. In the first case, the weld seam is straight, while in the second case it runs along a helical line, forming a spiral. A longitudinal steel pipe is usually cheaper than a spiral welded one (they are not interchangeable in all cases), and buying in bulk can help you save a significant amount of money.

What is the difference between longitudinally welded and spiral welded steel pipes? A longitudinal steel pipe has a shorter and simpler weld seam, which simplifies weld quality control and ensures reliability as well as a lower price for welded rolled products. A steel pipe with a spiral seam is manufactured only in large diameters because it is not possible to produce a very wide metal blank for such pipes.

  • Manufacturing

    Виробництво металопродукції

The process of manufacturing metal products is a multi-stage one, comprising a series of technological operations. It is labour-intensive and resource-intensive, which explains the price of the finished products.

Welded products are manufactured from cold-formed or hot-formed metal strips. Sheet metal is formed on special forming machines into the shape of the finished product, after which the edges are joined using electric radio-frequency welding. Prior to the welding process, a high-voltage electrical discharge is passed through the rolled metal blank, which heats the edge of the pipe for better welding. The result is a virtually invisible seam, running parallel to the axis of the product.

Electrofusion products are mass-produced in a wide range of external diameters: from 10 to 1420 mm. The wall thickness can vary up to 16.5 mm.

  • Uses

    Сфера застосування

Electrofusion pipes are used for the installation and major repair of standard and high-pressure pipelines (water mains, heating mains, oil and gas pipelines). The finished product is used to manufacture furniture, interior and design items, fence posts, stair railings, street benches, public transport shelters, and standard and critical metal structures.

If the pipe is to be operated under pressure, it undergoes hydraulic testing at nominal pressure after manufacture, depending on the diameter:

    Electric-welded steel pipe (< Ø 102 mm – 6 MPa; > Ø 102 mm – 3 MPa)
    Straight-seam welded pipe (2–2.5 MPa).

  • Types of pipes

    Види зварних труб

    The product is classified:

By seam type: straight-seam and spiral-seam welded pipes.
By steel chemical composition: steel, carbon, low-alloy and high-quality pipes.
By processing type: cold-rolled and hot-rolled strip (strip). The price of pipes made from hot-rolled strip will be higher due to the higher production cost (energy consumption required to heat the metal).
By length: cut-to-length, random length. Steel pipes of random length with a diameter of up to 30 mm are supplied from two metres, ⌀ 30–70 mm – from 3 metres, ⌀ 70–152 mm – from 4 metres. Cut-to-length products are manufactured from ⌀ 210 mm, in lengths of 10 m and 12 m.

  • How to choose

How to choose the right product? Key specifications and properties

Before buying a product in bulk, it is important to know straight away what medium will be transported: liquid, gaseous, cold, hot, corrosive or mildly corrosive. The steel grade is selected accordingly: low-carbon or carbon steel, alloyed or low-alloyed steel, ordinary steel, or stainless steel.

Next, you need to determine how many pipes of what diameter you need to purchase. Schematics, drawings and other design documents are used for these calculations. Welded pipes are purchased in bulk of a single type with a small buffer stock.

When selecting products, you need to clarify whether there are any requirements regarding chamfering and surface quality.

  • Order

Buy steel electric-welded pipes in bulk at an affordable price from LEART

The international company LEART offers both large and small-scale wholesalers the opportunity to purchase straight-seam pipes with delivery.

Depending on the diameter, welded pipes are packed in bundles weighing 1–8 tonnes. Large-diameter pipes are shipped in bulk to increase loading capacity and facilitate unloading from lorries, flat wagons and other open-top transport platforms.

Thin-walled electric-welded pipes (wall thickness less than 1.5 mm) must be stored in a dry, well-ventilated room; otherwise, the product may be stored outdoors.
