Steel round bar (metal bar, rod, round bar) – a type of rolled steel with a solid circular cross-section, widely used in industrial cities across Ukraine and Europe.

  • Manufacturing

    Methods of Manufacturing Steel Rods

    Round steel bars are produced in a wide range of diameters: from 3 to 270 mm. The raw material for producing round bars can be steel with different physical and chemical properties: carbon, alloyed, structural, spring, or heat-resistant steel. The bars may also differ in length (1–12 meters) and coating: galvanized or uncoated. The price of galvanized bars is significantly higher than that of uncoated bars. However, if the rod is intended for use in aggressive environments, it is better to pay extra and buy galvanized steel rods wholesale.

    Depending on the technological production process, round steel bars can be:

    1. Hot-rolled – bars with a diameter from 5 mm to 270 mm are produced on special rolling mills by rolling a preheated metal billet in a furnace between rollers. Once the rod is formed by compression, it is cut into segments of the required length and specifications. The cut steel bars are then cooled and cleaned of scale using a high-pressure water jet, after which they undergo additional processing to achieve the desired properties (heat treatment in a furnace, grinding, chemical treatment, etc.). Steel rods that have passed quality control inspection are sent to the customer or used in the production cycle. Hot-rolled round bars are typically used as blanks for producing metal products with more precise diameters and surface quality.
    2. Cold-rolled / calibrated – steel rods with diameters from 3 mm to 100 mm obtained by processing hot-rolled billets. Cold-deformed rods have more accurate dimensions, shape, diameter, and surface quality.
    3. Forged – steel rods with a thickness from 4 to 29 mm, obtained by forging steel billets on hydraulic and industrial forging machines. Forged bars are resistant to bending and twisting, strong and reliable, and are used in demanding conditions under static and dynamic loads.
  • Uses

    Applications of Round Steel Bars

    Round steel bars are used in various sectors of the economy:

    • shipbuilding and mechanical engineering;
    • industrial and civil construction;
    • automotive industry;
    • machine tool manufacturing;
    • oil and gas extraction;
    • metallurgical and mining industries;
    • military sector;
    • manufacture of metal structures, etc.

    For each sector, it is advisable to purchase rods with specific physical, mechanical, and chemical properties, for example:

    • Alloy steel round bars are used to produce parts and assemblies with high service life (shafts, hydraulic cylinders, pistons).
    • Ordinary steel bars are used to make rivets, washers, studs, bolts, and other types of metal products.
    • Low-alloy galvanized bars are used to construct various building structures and parts operating in high humidity and aggressive environments.
    • Small-diameter steel rods are used in decorative welding or frame reinforcement (not to be confused with rebar – these are different products).
    • Spring steel rods are used to manufacture cutting and metalworking tools, springs, and parts for railway cars and trains.
  • Advantages

    Advantages and Disadvantages of Round Steel Bars

    The popularity of round steel bars is due to several advantages:

    • easy metalworking (turning, drilling, welding, cutting, etc.);
    • high strength and load resistance;
    • convenient transportation and storage;
    • low cost – affordable price;
    • wide range of available sizes.

    A significant disadvantage of round bars is their relatively high weight due to the large amount of metal in the product.

    Metal Product Specifications

    Depending on rolling accuracy, rods are classified into grades:

    • "A" – high accuracy with a possible diameter deviation of -0.9 mm to +0.3 mm;
    • "B" – medium accuracy with a deviation of -2 mm to +0.6 mm;
    • "C" – standard accuracy with a deviation within -4 mm to +0.8 mm.

    The price of calibrated "A" grade rods is the highest. However, if there are no strict requirements for the product, you can save money by purchasing "C" grade rods wholesale.

    Depending on length, steel rods can be:

    • standard length;
    • non-standard length;
    • multiple-length segments.

    Buy Steel Rods Wholesale at an Affordable Price at LEART

    The international company LEART – a reliable and trusted metal trader – offers steel rods at dealer prices with delivery to the customer’s site. The price for each product range is indicated in invoices.

    To calculate the weight of the entire batch, use the calculator on the website or calculate 1 linear meter of rod using the formula m = ρ× (π× D² / 4) and multiply the result by the total length (ρ – metal density, π = 3.14, D – rod diameter).
