The physical and mechanical properties of a steel semi-finished product depend on the manufacturing method:

• Hot-rolled steel square can be purchased in bulk from the international company LEART with cross-sections of 6–200 mm and lengths of 1–12 meters. The product is manufactured by hot rolling on rolling mills at metallurgical plants in Ukraine and Europe. Alloyed and carbon steel grades can be used as raw materials. Depending on the billet size, the number of passes through the rolling mill’s compression rolls, and other factors, the rolling accuracy varies: metal squares are produced in standard (B) and increased (B+) accuracy.
• Cold-rolled (calibrated) steel square is produced with cross-sections of 3–100 mm using cold rolling/drawing technology from hot-rolled billets, which are compressed and pulled through a die of a specific size. After rolling, the steel square is turned, polished, and ground, ensuring excellent surface quality and product precision. Cold-rolled steel has a higher production cost, so the final product price is higher than that of hot-rolled steel.

There is also forged steel square, manufactured in widths ranging from 40 to 200 mm by applying high temperature and pressure. Forged semi-finished products are used to make highly durable and wear-resistant items and components for severe operating conditions, such as steam turbine blades operating at temperatures up to +580°C. All deviations from the geometric dimensions of forged products are specified in the relevant documentation.

Field of Application

Depending on the manufacturing technology and steel grade, steel products are used in various industries:

• Civil and industrial construction. Reinforced elements of metal structures, connecting parts of loaded nodes, reinforcing frameworks, and floor components are made from steel square semi-finished products. The greater the thickness, the higher the strength, weight, and price per linear meter of the product.
• Machine and wagon building. Precision-calibrated squares are used to produce machine and mechanism parts: shafts, axles, bushings, cylinders, spindles, pushers. Steel squares are also used for assembling railway carriages.
• Automotive industry. Alloy steel squares serve as raw material for manufacturing parts and assemblies for automotive, agricultural, and road construction machinery.
• Design applications. Small cross-section steel squares are used for interior and exterior design of private and municipal areas: stairs, fireplace and window grilles, decorations, gazebos, pavilions, fences, and more.

• 2–12 m: ordinary steel;
• 2–6 m: high-quality alloy steel;
• 1–6 m: high-alloy grade.

This classification is determined by the intended use of the steel products and helps reduce waste.
